NCERT Class 8 Science
Class 8 Science: Curiosity chapter-wise practice
Curiosity is built around small experiments and questions like "what do you think will happen?". Each chapter here starts with a hands-on activity, such as separating mixtures or sorting materials, followed by questions that check the idea and not just the definition.
- 13 chapters
- 523 practice questions

Chapter 1 Exploring the Investigative World of Science
Begin Grade 8 science as an investigator: ask sharper questions, plan fair tests, observe carefully, measure where possible, and keep curiosity grounded in evidence.
Topics: Curiosity to focused questions, Systematic investigation, Variables and fair testing, Observation and measurement, Grade 8 science journey, Scientific attitude and responsibility
-
Chapter 2 The Invisible Living World: Beyond Our Naked Eye
Explore the living world that eyes cannot see: cells, microscopes, microorganisms, fermentation, decomposition and the useful work of tiny organisms around us.
Topics: Magnification and discovery, Basic cell structure, Plant, animal and bacterial cells, Shape, function and organisation, Microorganisms and habitats, Useful microbes in life
-
Chapter 3 Health: The Ultimate Treasure
Understand health as physical, mental and social well-being, and learn how habits, environment, immunity, vaccines and careful medicine use help prevent disease.
Topics: Meaning of health, Healthy habits and environment, Signs, symptoms and disease types, Communicable diseases, Non-communicable diseases, Immunity, vaccines and treatment
-
Chapter 4 Electricity: Magnetic and Heating Effects
Investigate how electric current can deflect a compass, make temporary magnets, heat wires, power useful appliances and come from different kinds of cells and batteries.
Topics: Magnetic effect of current, Electromagnets and poles, Strength and uses of electromagnets, Heating effect of current, Cells and batteries, Electrical safety and sustainability
-
Chapter 5 Exploring Forces
Learn force as a push or pull from interactions, then use contact and non-contact forces to explain motion, friction, weight, spring balances and floating or sinking.
Topics: Force and its effects, Interaction and contact forces, Friction and surfaces, Non-contact forces, Weight, mass and spring balance, Floating, sinking and buoyant force
-
Chapter 6 Pressure, Winds, Storms, and Cyclones
Explore how force over area creates pressure, how liquids and air push, and why pressure differences drive winds. Connect these ideas to storms, lightning, cyclones and safety decisions.
Topics: Pressure as force per unit area, Liquid pressure, Atmospheric pressure, Winds and pressure differences, Fast winds and low pressure, Storms, lightning and thunder, Cyclones and safety
-
Chapter 7 Particulate Nature of Matter
Understand matter as tiny constituent particles with spaces, attractions and motion. Use chalk, sugar water, smoke, syringes and fragrance to compare solids, liquids and gases.
Topics: Matter is made of tiny particles, Interparticle spaces and dissolution, Interparticle attractions and melting, Solid, liquid and gas properties, Compressibility and particle spacing, Particle motion and temperature
-
Chapter 8 Nature of Matter: Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures
Classify matter as mixtures, pure substances, elements and compounds. Compare air, alloys, water electrolysis, sugar charring, iron-sulfur mixtures and minerals through evidence.
Topics: Mixtures and components, Air as a mixture, Pure substances in science, Elements, atoms and metals, Compounds and fixed ratios, Iron sulfide, minerals and uses
-
Chapter 9 The Amazing World of Solutes, Solvents, and Solutions
Study solutions through ORS, salt water, solubility, temperature, gases in water and density. Practise measuring mass and volume, using meniscus readings and calculating density.
Topics: Solute, solvent and solution, Concentration, saturation and solubility, Temperature and gas solubility, Density and floating, Measuring mass and volume, Effects on density
-
Chapter 10 Light: Mirrors and Lenses
Explore how concave and convex mirrors and lenses change images and bend beams of light. Use ray diagrams, spoon observations and safe sunlight activities to understand reflection, convergence and divergence.
Topics: Spherical mirrors, Images in mirrors, Laws of reflection, Converging and diverging mirrors, Lenses and their images, Converging and diverging lenses
-
Chapter 11 Keeping Time with the Skies
Learn why the Moon changes shape, why it rises later each day, and how sky cycles led to days, months, years and calendars. Connect Moon phases, festivals and artificial satellites with careful observation.
Topics: Moon phases and names, Where and when to see the Moon, Cause of Moon phases, Astronomical cycles and calendars, Indian calendars and festivals, Artificial satellites
-
Chapter 12 How Nature Works in Harmony
Study habitats, ecosystems, food chains, food webs, decomposers and the balance that keeps nature working. Use pond, forest, farm and Sundarbans examples to see how one change can affect many lives.
Topics: Habitats and components, Population and community, Ecosystem interactions, Food chains, webs and trophic levels, Decomposition and balance, Ecosystem benefits and sustainability
-
Chapter 13 Our Home: Earth, a Unique Life Sustaining Planet
Bring together astronomy, Earth systems, ecosystems and reproduction to explain why Earth supports life. Compare planets, trace how life continues, and examine threats such as climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution.
Topics: Earth's life-supporting position, Planet size, atmosphere and greenhouse effect, Earth's protective magnetic field, Interacting Earth systems, Reproduction and continuity of life, Threats and responsible action
Where does the study time go?
Middle school days are long. Six subjects, projects, the commute and often tuition in the evening. Children spend plenty of hours on studies but get very little quiet time to study on their own, and a gap in one chapter quietly carries over into the next.
Tuition is fine, and plenty of children need it. But a tutor with eight or ten children in one batch cannot sit with each of them, and cannot always keep track of what the school did that week. Sometimes the tuition follows its own order of chapters, the child ends up juggling two plans for the same subject, and the confusion shows up in the next test.
NoTuition.in gives that small window some shape: the chapter your child is doing in school, a short activity, practice that explains every mistake, and a clear view for you of what needs work.
